Shaina Nitura is Adamson’s first UAAP women’s volleyball MVP

Metro Manila, Philippines – Shaina Nitura is set to be named as Adamson University’s first Most Valuable Player in UAAP women’s volleyball history.

The 21-year-old outside spiker led the league in scoring for the second consecutive year, tallying 284 points on 248 attacks, 24 blocks and 12 aces in Season 88. She also led Adamson to its first Final Four appearance in three years.

Nitura, the sophomore captain, was the runaway winner for the highest individual award with 98.511 statistical points, finishing 16 points ahead of teammate Frances Mordi who came in second place with 82.766 statistical points.

Adamson is now awaiting the winner of the University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University knockout match in the stepladder semifinals on Saturday, April 25, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Sam Cantada of National University, meanwhile, will be named Rookie of the Year after finishing sixth in the MVP race with 66.786 statistical points. 

On the other hand, Josh Ybañez captures his third MVP award after missing out on individual honors in Season 87 due to injuries. He led the league with 90.192 statistical points as he became the first University of Santo Tomas player to win three MVP awards in the men’s division.

Best Middle Blockers: Amie Provido (De La Salle University) and Niña Ytang (University of the Philippines)

Best Opposite Spiker: Shevana Laput (De La Salle University)

Best Setter: Fhei Sagaysay (Adamson University)

Best Libero: Shaira Jardio (National University)

Men’s

Best Outside Hitters: Ybañez and Michaelo Buddin (National University)

Best Middle Blockers: Issa Ousseini (De La Salle University) and Lirick Mendoza (Far Eastern University)

Best Opposite Spiker: Leo Ordiales (National University)

Best Setter: Ariel Cacao (Far Eastern University)

Best Libero: Vennie Ceballos (Far Eastern University)
