Metro Manila, Philippines – Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for its reimagined “Resident Evil,” offering a fresh take on the long-running horror franchise from filmmaker Zach Cregger.
Known for the critically acclaimed horror films Barbarian and Weapons, Cregger writes and directs the reboot, which introduces an all-new story instead of adapting previous films or video game storylines.
The film stars Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier whose ordinary work shift turns into a desperate fight for survival. As one horrifying night unfolds, Bryan finds himself hunted by monstrous creatures in a relentless race to stay alive.
According to the studio, the reboot aims to reinvent the iconic franchise with a suspense-driven story while retaining the survival horror elements that made “Resident Evil” a global phenomenon.
Produced by TriStar Pictures, Constantin Film and Davis Films, the film marks the latest cinematic adaptation of Capcom’s bestselling video game series.
“Resident Evil” opens in Philippine cinemas, including IMAX, on Sept. 16.
