Metro Manila, Philippines – Mike Phillips has signed a two-year contract with the Kyoto Hannaryz in the Japan B.League, the team announced on Tuesday, July 21.
“I’m truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to join the Kyoto Hannaryz organization and the B.LEAGUE,” Phillips said in a statement.
The 24-year-old is the third Filipino cager to serve as Asian Quota player of Kyoto, following Matthew Wright and Jamie Malonzo.
After helping the De La Salle University Green Archers win two UAAP titles, Phillips briefly played for the San Juan Knights in the MPBL.
Phillips recently suited up for Gilas Pilipinas in the third window of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian qualifiers, where he averaged four points and 8.5 rebounds in over 17 minutes of action against New Zealand and Australia.
Phillips became eligible to represent the country after FIBA classified him as a local player in February.
Prior to that, he was part of the Gilas side that captured the gold medal in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
Kyoto finished in 20th place in the 2025-26 Japan B.League season, with a 20-40 win-loss record.
