Gilas slips to No. 39 in FIBA men world rankings

Metro Manila, Philippines – Gilas Pilipias fell to No. 39 in the latest FIBA world rankings for men following the third window of the World Cup 2027 Asian qualifiers.

The Philippines dropped three spots after losing to New Zealand by four points and Australia by 43 points on back-to-back road games.

Gilas is seventh in Asia behind Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Iran, China, and Lebanon.

The US retained its spot on top followed by Germany, Serbia, France, and Canada with no movement in the world rankings.

The Philippines will have a chance to improve its place in August for the beginning of the second round of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers window, where it will go up against Jordan on the 28th and Iran on the 30th.

Gilas (2-4) joins a stacked Group E in the World Cup Asian qualifiers alongside undefeated Australia (6-0) and New Zealand (4-2), Iran (5-1), Jordan (5-1) and Syria (2-4).
