Metro Manila, Philippines – Taiwan has renewed its call to participate in international discussions on public health, aviation safety, and other shared concerns as the United Nations General Assembly meets in New York.
In a statement, Taiwan’s representative in the Philippines, Wallace Minn-Gan Chow, said excluding Taiwanese experts leaves a gap in discussions that also affect the region.
Chow identified climate change, disaster response and sustainable development as other areas where Taiwan could contribute.
“Taiwanese experts remain excluded from participating in vital discussions on public health, aviation safety, climate change, disaster response, and sustainable development,” he wrote.
Chow said Taiwan’s participation would also serve Philippine interests. He cited the potential effects of a disruption in the Taiwan Strait on shipping, air travel, semiconductor production and regional trade.
Any such disruption could also affect Filipino workers and families across the region, he said.
The envoy pointed to economic opportunities for the Philippines and Taiwan, particularly in semiconductors and electronics.
He said Taiwanese companies could combine their technology and manufacturing experience with the Philippines workforce and electronics industry.
