Metro Manila, Philippines – Pope Leo XIV’s recovery following surgery is progressing normally, with blood tests and a chest X-ray showing results within the expected range, the Vatican said Wednesday, Oct. 14.
In a medical update, Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora said the pontiff had begun walking around his room, undergone respiratory physiotherapy and resumed eating normally.
“The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed,” the doctors said.
The Vatican said the pope underwent scheduled postoperative blood tests and a chest X-ray Wednesday morning.
The pontiff also had breakfast and lunch after resuming his normal diet.
“His recovery is proceeding as expected,” the doctors said.
The medical update did not specify the type of surgery performed or when the pope would be discharged.
