Tehran, Iran — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to New York on Tuesday to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, his office announced.
Pezeshkian is expected to address the assembly and meet other world leaders and government officials during the visit.
Habibollah Abbasi, director general of public relations at the Iranian president’s office, announced the trip through Iran’s official IRNA news agency.
Abbasi said the United States did not issue visas to some members of the Iranian delegation, including members of Pezeshkian’s media team.
Washington said Thursday that it would issue visas to some senior Iranian officials attending the UN gathering.
The United States had yet to respond publicly to Iran’s claim concerning the other delegation members.
As host country of the UN headquarters, the United States generally allows foreign delegations to attend official UN meetings. Washington may impose restrictions on their movements and the composition of delegations.
Pezeshkian’s speech is expected to outline Tehran’s position on major international and regional issues.
