Beijingh, China – More than 31,000 people have been evacuated from areas at risk of flooding and other hazards in southern China’s Hainan province as persistent heavy rain battered the island, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported Monday.
Hainan’s provincial committee for disaster prevention, mitigation and relief said no major disasters had been reported despite days of intense rainfall.
From Friday morning through Sunday afternoon, 24 townships across six cities and counties recorded more than 300 millimeters of rain.
Changfeng township in Wanning recorded the highest rainfall at 452.1 millimeters.
Authorities warned that more rain was forecast for the province.
