Baghdad, Iraq – Five rockets struck areas in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region early Monday, targeting camps belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups but causing no casualties.
The rockets hit several locations in Sulaymaniyah province at around 3:10 a.m. local time, according to a statement from the regional security agency Asayish.
Authorities reported no casualties and urged residents to stay away from the impact sites.
A Kurdish security source, who spoke to Xinhua on condition of anonymity, said the strikes targeted camps operated by Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
An investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the attack.
No group immediately claimed responsibility, according to the report.
Iranian Kurdish opposition positions in mountainous areas of Iraqi Kurdistan near the border with Iran have previously been targeted by artillery and airstrikes carried out by Iranian forces.
