Metro Manila, Philippines – The Cignal Super Spikers are taking a leave of absence from the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) just days after a runner-up finish in the All-Filipino Conference.
“This difficult decision was taken after careful review of Cignal’s strategic direction,” the team said in a statement released on Tuesday, April 28.
“Our deepest thanks go out to the players, coaches, and staff who have poured their hearts into this team over the years. And to our fans, who have stood by us, maraming, maraming salamat!” it added.
The Super Spikers recently fell short of winning the elusive PVL title, bowing to the Creamline Cool Smashers in Game 2 of the All-Filipino Conference finals.
Even without a PVL championship to its name, Cignal proved to be a perennial contender after having multiple podium finishes since joining the league in 2021.
Cignal, which also pulled the plug on its Spikers’ Turf team early this year despite being the winningest squad in that men’s league, became the latest franchise in less than a year to leave the PVL following Chery Tiggo and Petro Gazz.
Chery Tiggo left the PVL in December 2025 which marked an end to its 11-year existence as a club team, while Petro Gazz followed suit the next month after seven triumphant years in the pro league.
With Cignal gone, there are nine active teams in the PVL.
