Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will undertake a state visit to Japan from May 26 to 29 upon the invitation of the Japanese government, the Presidential Communications Office said Thursday. April 24.
Based on the schedule released by the Palace, the president and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos will be received by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace for a welcome ceremony, state call, and state banquet.
Marcos will also hold a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, where discussions will focus on the future of the Philippines-Japan Strengthened Strategic Partnership.
The leaders will also tackle key international developments, particularly on energy and food security, as well as maritime security.
The Palace said the president will also engage with Japanese business groups and members of the Filipino community.
Former president Benigno Aquino III was the last president who went on a state visit to Japan in June 2015.
Meanwhile, Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko last visited the Philippines in January 2016.
The Philippines and Japan are marking the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year.
