Metro Manila, Philippines – More artists of Filipino descent will join Dreamworks’ upcoming animated film “Forgotten Island,” according to a report by entertainment news magazine Variety.
Filipino actress Dolly de Leon is part of the animated feature. Her accolades include a Los Angeles Film Critics Association win, as well as nominations in the Golden Globes and BAFTA Awards for her performance in the “Triangle of Sadness.”
“Over the moon with excitement and Pinoy pride to share Forgotten Island with the world! Nakakaproud maging Pinoy [Proud to be Filipino],” De Leon said on Instagram.
She thanked the animation studio, and the film’s writers and directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado for “for putting our stories out there.”
Others are Filipino-American stand-up comedian Jo Koy, and Filipino-American actress Amielynn Abellera, a breakout star from Max’s drama series, “The Pitt.”
Variety also reported Ronnie Chieng, a Malaysian-American comedian and actor, as among the cast members.
Dreamworks Animation already revealed in October last year that “Forgotten Island” features Broadway star Lea Salonga, actress Liza Soberano, Filipino-American singer-songwriter H.E.R., and Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto.
“Forgotten Island” revolves around the story of lifelong best friends, voiced by H.E.R. and Soberano, who find themselves stranded in the “forgotten island” of Nakali.
Filipino folklore is expected to take center stage in the action-adventure animated comedy.
It will be released on Sept. 26. The trailer will be dropped next week, according to Variety.
