In a directive signed by Energy Secretary Sharon Garin on Wednesday, March 4, the Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee provided a list of measures to realize at least 10 percent savings.

It would also ensure enough electricity during the hot dry season.

The committee said there should be strict and immediate implementation of steps such as activating sleep settings on office equipment.

The air-conditioning unit thermostat must not be lower than 24 degrees Celsius while doors of air-conditioned spaces must be kept closed.

It said offices must report on the adoption of flexible work arrangements or of eight hours straight office operation whenever practical and applicable.

Lights and computers should be turned off during lunch breaks, after office hours, and whenever not in use.

The committee said lighting systems must be replaced to LED, while air conditioners to inverter technology.

Agencies should use appliances with higher energy efficiency ratings and renewable energy on-site such as solar photovoltaic.

Garin said agencies must designate energy efficiency and conservation professionals, monthly submission of electricity and fuel consumption reports, and submission of inventory reports of all energy consuming equipment, and submission of energy efficiency and conservation plan.

She said the Department of Energy’s energy audit team will be conducting random spot checks and issue energy ratings to validate compliance.
