Metro Manila, Philippines – Tony Award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga made history as the first Filipino to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The ceremony was held in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame honored Salonga for her lasting legacy and contributions to Filipino and Asian representation in the entertainment industry.
Salonga became the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award. She received the honor for her performance as Kim in the Broadway musical “Miss Saigon.”
She is also known for providing the singing voices of Princess Jasmine in “Aladdin” and Fa Mulan in “Mulan.”
In 2011, Salonga was named a Disney Legend for her contributions to the company’s animated films.
