Metro Manila, Philippines – State weather bureau PAGASA has lifted Signal No. 2 but continued to place two areas in Luzon under Signal No. 1 as Tropical Storm Ada (international name: Nokaen) slowly moved away from land on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 18.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Catanduanes and the northeastern portion of Camarines Sur.

In a briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said rains and strong gusts of winds may be experienced in the two provinces on Sunday evening.

Castañeda said scattered rains are expected over Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, rest of Bicol region, and Northern Samar.

The northeast monsoon or amihan and the periphery of “Ada” will bring strong to gale-force gusts over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, Quezon, Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

PAGASA said “Ada” was last seen 205 kilometers (km) northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

“Ada” slightly weakened, currently packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

PAGASA said “Ada” is forecast to move generally northeastward until Monday, Jan. 19, before following a looping track over the sea east of Luzon.

“Ada” is expected to weaken into a tropical depression by Tuesday then into a low pressure area by Thursday due to the surge of amihan.
