Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Malaysia has condemned calls by Israeli government officials for the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, reaffirming its opposition to attempts to remove Palestinians from their homeland.
Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry issued the condemnation Thursday, Sept. 10, as it also denounced what it described as “brutal and systematic violence” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, according to Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
“Malaysia categorically rejects any attempt to forcibly displace or resettle Palestinians from their homeland,” the ministry said.
Kuala Lumpur also condemned the killing and intimidation of Palestinians as well as the destruction of property and forced displacement attributed to Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
The ministry described such actions as “abhorrent acts” and said they constituted serious violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
Malaysia has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and has repeatedly called for the protection of Palestinian civilians and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The statement did not identify in the Xinhua report which Israeli officials made the recent calls for Palestinians to be displaced from Gaza.
