Metro Manila, Philippines – Fifteen areas across the country have been placed under the ‘danger’ heat index for Tuesday, May 5, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
The following areas may experience heat indices as high as 42°C to 44°C:
- Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 44°C (highest)
- Mambusao, Capiz – 44°C (highest)
- Aborlan, Palawan – 43°C
- Virac, Catanduanes – 43°C
- Iloilo City, Iloilo – 43°C
- Dumangas, Iloilo – 43°C
- Borongan, Eastern Samar – 42°C
- Laoag, Ilocos Norte – 42°C
- Bacnotan, La Union – 42°C
- Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 42°C
- Iba, Zambales – 42°C
- VSU–Baybay, Leyte – 42°C
- Surigao City, Surigao del Norte – 42°C
- Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur – 42°C
- Butuan City, Agusan del Norte – 42°C
PAGASA warns that residents in these areas may experience heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Continuous exposure to high temperatures could lead to heat stroke.
The state weather bureau advised the public to drink plenty of water and limit time spent outdoors during extreme heat. The use of caps and umbrellas is also encouraged.
The data is based on PAGASA’s two-day forecast released on May 4.
