Metro Manila, Philippines – Saudi Arabia condemned Iran’s targeting of the Saudi tanker Sidr while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, an attack that resulted in fatalities among the vessel’s crew.
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned Iranian attacks targeting Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, expressing full solidarity with the three countries and support for measures they take to protect their security and sovereignty.
The ministry called for an end to the escalation and stressed the need to protect international navigation and global energy supplies.
Saudi Arabia also called for respect for the sovereignty of states, the principles of good neighborliness, the United Nations Charter and international law.
The kingdom urged all parties to exercise restraint, halt the escalation and return to negotiations and peaceful solutions.
The Sidr attack also resulted in the deaths of two Filipino seafarers, according to the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers. Fourteen other Filipino crew members were reported safe.
