Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson face dark secrets in ‘Verity’

Metro Manila, Philippines – Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson are drawn into a web of secrets, manipulation and obsession in “Verity,” the upcoming psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.

Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway.

To complete the work, Lowen moves into the remote Crawford estate, where she discovers what appear to be Verity’s disturbing autobiographical notes.

The writings contain chilling confessions involving Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Josh Hartnett, leaving Lowen struggling to determine what is real and what is fiction.

As she becomes increasingly immersed in Verity’s world, the lines between manipulation and attraction, opportunity and obsession begin to blur.

“Verity” is adapted from Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller of the same name. The novel became one of the author’s breakout successes and is known for its dark themes and ambiguous questions surrounding the truth of its central characters.

Michael Showalter directs the film from a screenplay by Nick Antosca.

Hathaway also serves as a producer alongside Hoover, Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter and Jordana Mollick. Johnson is among the film’s executive producers.

The cast also includes Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner.

“Verity” arrives in Philippine cinemas on Sept. 30 and is distributed locally by Columbia Pictures.
