Metro Manila, Philippines – The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws sent the cellar-dwelling University of the East (UE) Red Warriors crashing to their 30th straight defeat in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The Tamaraws fended off a pesky Warriors side, 94-83, to pick up their second consecutive victory in Season 89.
Jorick Bautista led the charge for FEU with 18 points and four rebounds.
The Red Warriors were able to trim the deficit to just five points in the third quarter, but the Tamaraws responded quickly to bring their lead back to double digits for the rest of the match.
Mo Konateh and Kirby Mongcopo chipped in 15 points apiece, while Elias Gish contributed 13 points for FEU.
Toper Lagat delivered a fine performance for UE, finishing the contest with 24 markers along with six rebounds and three assists.
The Tamaraws improved to 6-4 in the team standings, tying the De La Salle University Green Archers for third place as the Final Four race heats up.
Meanwhile, the Red Warriors fell to 0-10 and remained winless since Season 87.
FEU will aim to strengthen its playoff bid on Nov. 8 when it faces the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers at the Big Dome.
UE, on the other hand, takes on the Adamson University Soaring Falcons Nov. 7 at the same venue.
