Metro Manila, Philippines – The Supreme Court approved guidelines on fixing child support, which seek to determine and fix the amount of support relative to the lived experiences and circumstances of families.
A statement from the court said the guidelines will apply in the absence of a written and valid agreement on child support, or when there is a change in the circumstances of the parties that will prompt an adjustment in the amount of support.
The parameters also identify persons obliged to support in recognition of shared child-rearing responsibilities among a number of people.
The support, the court said, should also factor in the time devoted to a child’s care and supervision.
The SC said the guidelines lay the groundwork for judges to take “a uniform, objective, and evidence-based approach” to promoting the best interest of the child.
