Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Surigao Del Norte at 2:43 p.m. today (July 3), according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
It occurred 41 kilometers northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte.
According to Robert Tiglao, PHIVOLCS Science Research Specialist, the tectonic earthquake had a depth of 30 kilometers.
Tiglao added that the 6.1 quake is incapable of generating a tsunami.
