Metro Manila, Philippines – Social media platform Friendster resumed operations in April, nearly 11 years after its shutdown in 2015.
Known primarily as a desktop website, the platform has returned with a mobile interface for Apple (iOS) users.
“Add friends in person (phone-to-phone), then share posts and messages within your actual friend network, not a follower graph,” it said.
The application promises four things:
Friends only. It says a user’s network is built from real connections.
No ads/algorithms. It promises to prevent engagement bait and feed manipulation, as commonly employed by other dominating social media apps.
No spam. It prevents bots and spam direct messages from random accounts.
Privacy-first. It does not sell user data.
“Friendster Labs has no relation to or access to previous data hosted on friendster.com,” it added.
