Metro Manila, Philippines – The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses took down the Adamson University Lady Falcons in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, to move to the next phase of the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament stepladder semifinals on Wednesday, April 29, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
After failing to win a single set against the Lady Falcons in the elimination round, the Golden Tigresses made sure there would be a different outcome when it mattered the most.
Angge Poyos led UST with 17 points, while Regina Jurado added 13 points for the Espana-based squad.
Meanwhile, the impressive campaign of Season 88 Most Valuable Player Shaina Nitura came to an end after helping Adamson snap a three-year Final Four drought. She had 13 markers in the contest.
The Golden Tigresses will aim to survive another do-or-die game, this time against the reigning champions National University Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, May 2, at the Big Dome, with the winner advancing to the best-of-three finals and face the undefeated De La Salle University Lady Spikers.
