LIST: Areas that must brace for intense rains this weekend due to #UwanPH

Metro Manila, Philippines – The weather bureau has warned of heavy downpour in Luzon and the Visayas this weekend due to Severe Tropical Storm Uwan, which is expected to intensify into a super typhoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a heavy rainfall outlook on Friday, Nov. 7, covering a wide range of provinces across the two regions.

Saturday noon (Nov. 8) to Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9)

Intense to torrential (>200 mm)

Heavy to intense rains are expected in Metro Manila and nearby provinces by this time.

Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said. Severe Tropical Storm Uwan is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility Friday evening or early morning of Saturday, Nov. 8.PAGASA forecasts the storm to rapidly intensify and reach super typhoon category by Saturday evening or Sunday morning.In response, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged all local officials to complete preemptive or mandatory evacuations of high-risk communities by Sunday. The DILG said the directive came from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during Thursday’s situation briefing.The department urged LGUs to act quickly and plan for worst-case scenarios.“We cannot be complacent. The next 48 hours are crucial for preparedness. We urge everyone to stay informed, follow local advisories, and cooperate with authorities,” the DILG said. LGUs were also reminded to stock sufficient supplies in evacuation centers, coordinate closely with Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils, and conduct timely public information campaigns, especially in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and storm surges.
