Metro Manila, Philippines – House justice committee chairperson Gerville “Jinky” Luistro denied allegations of bribery linked to the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying she has not encountered any attempt to influence lawmakers.
In an interview on The Newsmaker, Luistro said, “At least for myself… I never encountered any attempt from the leadership to influence the manner of voting in the impeachment process.”
The issue of alleged bribery was raised by a lawmaker amid the committee deliberations, fueling concerns over the credibility of the proceedings.
Luistro, however, said while impeachment is inherently political, lawmakers are guided by evidence and public accountability.
“The impeachment process is not only legal, it is also political,” she said.
“But for us members of the House, dapat ang maging desisyon namin katanggap-tanggap din sa aming constituents… meaning it should be supported by evidence,” she added.

She said political positions are not enough basis for reaching a decision.
“The decision of our political party… must be supported also by the evidence available before the justice committee,” Luistro said.
Luistro said the panel remains committed to conducting a fair and orderly process despite criticisms and allegations surrounding the proceedings.
“Isa lang ang commitment namin dito sa justice committee—to make sure that we will be able to conduct an orderly, organized, and fair impeachment proceeding,” she said.

The committee will begin hearings on the impeachment complaints against Duterte on March 25, where lawmakers will determine whether there is probable cause to elevate the case to the Senate for trial.
