Metro Manila, Philippines – The House justice committee has served notice to Vice President Sara Duterte to respond to impeachment complaints.

The notice was addressed to Duterte and delivered to the Office of the Vice President headquarters in Mandaluyong City on Thursday, March 5.

In a statement, Michael Poa, the vice president’s legal counsel, acknowledged the receipt of the notice.

“You are hereby directed to file your verified answer to the abovementioned complaints within a non-extendible period of ten calendar days from receipt of this notice, and to serve a copy of your verified answer upon the complainants within the same period as required under Sec. 6 of the rules,” read the letter, signed by panel chairperson and Batangas 2nd district Rep. Jinky Luistro.

The notice stated that should Duterte fail to file a response, it will be deemed as a denial to the allegations in the impeachment complaints.

The suits stemmed from Duterte’s alleged fund misuse, threats to the presidential family, and supposed unexplained wealth, among others. The grounds are the same: culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, bribery, and high crimes.

The House of Representatives impeached Duterte in February 2025, but was declared by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional for violating the charter’s one-year bar rule.
