Metro Manila, Philippines – Malacañang dismissed reports of an impending leadership change at the Department of Tourism, saying there are no talks to replace Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco despite online criticism and renewed speculation of a Cabinet shake-up.
Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro issued the clarification after reports surfaced claiming Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio was preparing to assume the post.
“As of now, wala pong pinag-uusapan na ganyan,” Castro said in a text message to reporters.

Amid the speculation, Frasco said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. continues to trust her leadership, brushing aside online backlash and questions about her standing in the Cabinet.
“I’m very grateful to our President as well as to the national government for supporting tourism in the Philippines,” Frasco said in an interview with reporters after the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cebu on Jan. 28.
“I believe the matter has been clearly addressed by the Palace and that I continue to enjoy the president’s trust.”
Frasco’s remarks come amid persistent criticism accusing her of prioritizing self-promotion over highlighting the country’s destinations — allegations she has repeatedly denied — as well as speculation that she may be positioning herself for a national run in the 2028 elections.
She reiterated that she serves “at the pleasure of the President” and noted that Malacañang has twice affirmed her continuation as tourism chief. She has also rejected claims that she is preparing for an electoral bid.
“I am not running for any national position,” Frasco said in a previous interview. “I have only ever worked the way I know how to be present, on the ground, responsive, to listen when needed, and to act as urgently as possible.”
Earlier, the DOT also denied claims linking Frasco to a magazine cover that drew criticism late last year for prominently featuring her image. The department said it did not contract, pay, commission or direct the publication, adding that Frasco was neither interviewed nor asked permission for the use of her photo.
