Kyiv, Ukraine (Viory) – Large parts of Ukraine’s capital were left without electricity Wednesday night following a major Russian missile and drone attack that Ukrainian authorities said killed at least 25 people and wounded around 100 others.
Footage from Kyiv showed rows of apartment buildings almost completely dark, with only a handful of illuminated windows. Vehicles continued moving through poorly lit streets as pedestrians navigated areas without streetlights.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched around 70 missiles, along with drones, during the overnight assault.
The strikes disrupted electricity supplies in the capital, with further power restrictions scheduled across Ukraine on Thursday as authorities dealt with the damage to energy infrastructure.
Moscow said its forces targeted what it described as military-industrial facilities in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions.
Russia also identified the Trypilska power plant near Kyiv as one of its targets, claiming the facility supplied electricity to Ukrainian defense installations.
The Russian account of the targets could not be independently verified.
