Metro Manila, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte arrived at the Senate on Tuesday to testify in the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
Baste was subpoenaed by the Senate sitting as an impeachment court to appear from Sept. 28 to 30.
The court later granted his request to move his appearance to Sept. 29 and 30 to give him more time to gather, authenticate, and reproduce documents required under the subpoena.
The House prosecution panel is expected to question Baste about Davao City government transactions with GenCorp Industries Inc., a company that Vice President Duterte declared as a business interest in her 2024 and 2025 Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
The city government previously acknowledged that GenCorp secured 19 contracts worth more than ₱33.2 million from Davao City.
Baste has said city officials were unaware of his sister’s declared interest in the company.
His testimony comes as the impeachment court tackles Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which centers on allegations involving the Vice President’s unexplained wealth, incomplete or inaccurate SALN disclosures, and failure to divest from business interests.
Baste had previously denied being aware of his sister’s alleged connection to GenCorp.
