Metro Manila, Philippines – “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has become Sony Pictures’ biggest opening weekend release in the country, earning ₱586.9 million during its first five days in theaters.

Columbia Pictures Philippines said Monday, Aug. 3,  the superhero film generated the haul from July 29 to Aug. 2 across more than 700 screens nationwide.

The opening also made “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” the biggest post-pandemic opening weekend in the Philippines, the highest-grossing debut for a Spider-Man film in the country, and the third-biggest opening weekend of all time behind “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The studio said the film dominated cinemas over the weekend, with sold-out screenings reported in several theaters as fans marked Spider-Man Day on Aug. 1. Cosplayers also appeared at screenings, while several shopping malls lit their facades in Spider-Man’s signature red and blue colors.

The latest installment follows Peter Parker as he embraces life as Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers his identity, while facing a mysterious new villain that threatens New York City.

The film is showing in cinemas nationwide, including ScreenX, 3D, 4DX and other premium formats.
