Metro Manila, Philippines  – Travelers may expect lower airfares in the second half of July after the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) lowered the fuel surcharge  for domestic and international flights operating from July 16 to 31.

The new fuel surcharge level replaces the Level 9 implemented from July 1 to 15.

Under Level 8, the allowable fuel surcharge for domestic passengers has been reduced to ₱253-₱787 from ₱287–₱839. The international  surcharge was lowered as well to ₱835.05–₱6,208.98, down from ₱947.39–₱7,044.27 depending on the destination.

According to the CAB, airlines intending to impose the fuel surcharge during the period must first secure approval from the agency.

Any surcharge collected must not exceed the maximum rates prescribed under Level 8.

The fuel surcharge is an optional fee collected by airlines separately from the base airfare to help recover fuel costs.
