Autopsy for Baterbonia upon family’s request

Metro Manila, Philippines – An autopsy will be done on Rene Baterbonia upon the request of his family in coordination with the National Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said the Ateneo de Manila University.

The 19-year-old Baterbonia and Divine Adili drowned on Monday, June 8, during a team building of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in Dipaculao, Aurora.

Aurora police confirmed that initial investigations showed no foul play.

In a statement, Ateneo said Baterbonia and Adili were transferred from the Aurora Memorial Hospital to the Arlington Memorial Chapels and Crematory in Quezon City on Tuesday, June 9.

“At the request of Rene’s parents, an autopsy will be conducted. The University, through Arlington, has coordinated with the appropriate authorities, including the National Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, to facilitate this process,” the school said.

Adili’s family has requested for his remains to be returned to Nigeria to follow cultural practices.

Ateneo said members of its men’s basketball team have returned from Aurora and underwent psychological processing and counseling by the college guidance office.
