Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 16) — Miss Philippines Yllana Marie Aduana donned an outfit inspired by “Maria Makiling” for her national costume in Miss Earth 2023 pageant in Vietnam.
Aduana paid tribute to the Philippine mythological goddess that protects the Mount Makiling, which is located at her home province of Laguna.
Her national costume was mostly made of recycled materials including food containers that were cut into leaf-like structures.
The green skirt-like part of her ensemble resembles the famed mountain in Luzon.
A medical technology graduate of Centro Escolar University-Makati, Aduana is a licensed medical laboratory scientist and model by profession.
The Siniloan, Laguna-born beauty advocates for using education as a platform to help fight climate change.
This is not the first time Aduana wore a gown made from recycled materials. In one of the events of the international beauty pageant, she wowed everyone with her blue evening gown made of zippers.
The coronation night will happen on Dec. 22 as Aduana aims for the country’s fifth Miss Earth crown.
