Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 17) — A 4th year criminology student died after a fraternity hazing in Quezon City, police said.
A police report released Tuesday identified the victim as 25-year-old Ahldryn Lery Chua Bravante, a resident of Imus, Cavite.
Authorities said they received a call from the Chinese General Hospital regarding Bravante’s condition on Monday night.
The victim’s two companions — who were also considered suspects — said he underwent initiation rites from some members of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity, Philippine College of Criminology Chapter.
\”After the initiation rite, the victim had difficulty in breathing and became unconscious. Hence, they brought him to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival,\” the police report stated.
It said examination showed Bravante sustained hematoma on both his legs, and cigarette burns on his chest and both hands. Pictures of the victim’s body showed dark, severe bruises on his thighs.
Two other suspects surrendered to authorities.
\”The incident is held under investigation and for follow up,\” police said.
In a statement, Bravante’s school Philippine College of Criminology said it does not tolerate any form of hazing or organization that promotes illegal and violent acts, as it extended its condolences to the student’s family.
\”We are doing everything in our power to investigate this incident, extending assistance to the family, while cooperating with the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,\” the school said.
In July this year, authorities nabbed two of more than two dozen suspects in the hazing death of an Adamson University student.
