Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 27) — Most of the 18 high-ranking police officers whose courtesy resignations were accepted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. continue to hold their positions pending clarification from Malacañang, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Thursday.
In a briefing, PNP Spokesperson PCol Jean Fajardo said 13 of the 18 are still in their present positions, while five are currently on floating status and staying in the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU).
The national police force said a meeting with Palace officials will be held this week to clarify what will happen to the 18 third-level officers. Fajardo noted that they have yet to receive an official copy of the document signed by the president
\”Kung matatandaan niyo nung nagkaroon ng panawagan, may pronouncement before na once our resignation will be accepted, we will be considered as optionally retired for purposes of receiving our retirement benefits. Isa po yon sa ika-clarify – kung ano ‘yung status ng 18, kung confirmed na sila ‘yung nasa dokumentong pinirmahan ng president,\” the spokesperson said.
[Translation: If you remember, there was a pronouncement before that once our resignations are accepted, we will be considered as optionally retired for purposes of receiving our retirement benefits. That’s one of the things we’re clarifying – what the status of the 18 is, and if it is confirmed they are the ones listed in the document signed by the president.]
Last January, third-level officers were asked to submit their courtesy resignations as they undergo a probe conducted by the National Police Commission Ad Hoc Advisory Group on their alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
The move was an offshoot of the 990-kilogram drug haul in Tondo, Manila last year in the warehouse owned by Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo.
However, the PNP clarified that not all of the officers whose resignations were accepted are involved in the controversial drug bust.
