National debt swells to ₱19.39 trillion in July

Metro Manila, Philippines – The Philippine national government’s outstanding debt climbed to ₱19.39 trillion as of end-July 2026, up by ₱323.53 billion or 1.70 percent from ₱19.07 trillion at the end of June, according to the Bureau of the Treasury.

Domestic debt accounted for the bulk at ₱13.11 trillion, or 67.61 percent, mainly from ₱271.22 billion in net issuance of government securities.

External debt stood at ₱6.28 trillion, accounting for 32.39 percent of the total.

It increased by ₱52.20 billion or 0.84 percent, mainly due to net external loan availment and the higher peso value of foreign currency-denominated obligations.

The Treasury said the overall increase in the debt stock was driven by net availment of domestic and external debt, as well as the revaluation of foreign currency-denominated obligations following movements in the peso against the US dollar and other currencies.

Meanwhile, national government-guaranteed obligations rose slightly to ₱306.13 billion, up ₱1.06 billion or 0.35 percent from the previous month.
