Marcos admin’s performance rating drops to 60% in Q2 – survey

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 20) — The Marcos administration’s approval rating fell to 60% as it marked its first year, a Publicus Asia survey released on Thursday showed, reflecting a 2% drop from the first quarter of 2023.

The figure also showed a four-point decline from the 64% approval rating recorded in the last quarter of 2022, the Manila-based political consultancy firm said.

The results of the same \”Pahayag\” survey covering the second quarter of this year further showed that Vice President Sara Duterte – who concurrently serves as Education secretary — got the highest approval rating among Cabinet members at 59%.

Publicus Asia said Duterte was followed by Marcos, who got a 49% approval rating for his role as head of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The approval ratings of other Cabinet officials were as follows:

– Department of Social Welfare and Development Sec. Rex Gatchalian (47%)
– Department of Finance Sec. Benjamin Diokno (46%)
– Former Department of Health officer-in-charge Rosario Vergeire (45%)
– Department of Migrant Workers Sec. Susan Ople (44%)
– Department of Tourism Sec. Ma. Esperanza Christina Frasco (43%)
– Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benjamin Abalos (42%)
– Department of Science and Technology Sec. Renato Solidum (42%)
– Former Department of National Defense officer-in charge Carlito Galvez Jr. (41%)

The firm also said some 57% of respondents agreed with Marcos’ decision to appoint himself as DA Secretary, and 60% identified inflation as the most pressing issue “hurting\” his overall performance.

Meanwhile, 66% approved of Duterte’s appointment as head of the Department of Education (DepEd), although the survey showed \”dissatisfaction arising from the proposed mandatory ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps), allocation of intelligence and confidential funds in DepEd, and the revised curriculum offering students the option to take additional two years of preparatory school for college.\”

Malacañang has yet to respond to the media’s request for comment on the survey.

Publicus Asia said its independent and non-commissioned Pahayag survey was conducted from June 7 to 12, with 1,500 respondents “randomly drawn from a market research panel of over 200,000 Filipinos.” It noted only registered Filipino voters were included in the sample.
