
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 8) — A total of 30,363 residents voted to convert the Municipality of Carmona into a component city of Cavite in a plebiscite held Saturday.
The Commission on Elections said turnout was at 53.90% – or 31,632 out of the 58,691 registered voters.
About 96% of those who voted said yes to Carmona’s cityhood while only 4% or 1,016 said no, according to the board of canvassers.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in February siged Republic Act No. 119381, or \”An Act Converting the Municipality of Carmona in the Province of Cavite into a component city to be known as the City of Carmona.\”
The law needed to be ratified through a plebiscite within 60 days from its approval.
