Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 16) – Assassinated Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo was buried on Thursday, almost two weeks after he was killed in his home.
The compound of his home in Bonawon, Siaton municipality served as the burial site.
A funeral procession was earlier held to transfer Degamo’s remains to the St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in Bonawon for the requiem mass.
The Negros Oriental provincial government hired 17 buses to transport constituents who wished to pay their last respects to Degamo in Siaton.
Malacañang also declared March 16 as a special non-working day in Negros Oriental to allow people to mourn their governor.
The governor’s widow, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, did not mince words on her sentiments.
