Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 2) — The country’s major telco players have registered more than 11 million subscriber identity module (SIM) as of Monday, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said.
In an update on Monday, NTC said the three telecommunication companies reported the following:
— DITO Telecommunity registered 1,017,012 SIMs as of Jan. 1
— Globe Telecom, 5,030,649 SIMs as of 9 a.m. of Jan. 2
— Smart Communications, 5,172,061 SIMs as of 10 a.m. of Jan. 2
SIM registration as required by law began on Dec. 27.
Existing SIM users have six months to register. Failing to register would result in the deactivation of their SIM. Once deactivated, users have only five days to register and reactivate.
New SIM sold will remain deactivated until end-users complete the registration.
