#MMShakeDrill: A mixture of praises, selfies, ‘hugot’ lines

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The organized Metro Manila Shake Drill’s hashtag #MMShakeDrill trended on Twitter — both nationwide and worldwide — even before the simulated quake at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (July 30).

Netizens, mostly employees and students, who participated in the event posted photos of them doing the “drop, cover, hold” pose or evacuating out of their offices and taking part in the drill.

Some even asked the MMDA to conduct more of these drills to train people how to properly prepare in case “The Big One” strikes.

Some netizens, however, took the opportunity to post their selfies, either while ducked under a table or simply while laying in bed when the 30-second audio recording signaled the start of the drill.

The MMDA earlier explained the value of the drill: “This will increase the metro’s chances of better recovery and implementation of contingencies in the event of earthquakes.”
