Zamboanga City (CNN Philippines) — The city government honored on Monday (July 13) two Zamboanguenio achievers who won medals for weightlifting in the 28th Southeast Asian games in Singapore.
The honorees are gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and bronze medalist Nestor Colonia.
Diaz won the title in the women’s 53-kg category and reportedly broke the record in the snatch event with 98 kgs and 115 kgs in the clean and jerk with a total of 213 kgs.
This is the first time in 20 years that the Philippines won the gold medal for this particular category.
Colonia meanwhile snagged the bronze medal in the men’s division 59-kg event.
