Metro Manila, Philippines - A number of in-person classes in public and private schools and work in government offices are suspended on Tuesday, Aug. 26, due to the anticipated rains brought by a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat.

The Department of Interior and Local Government announced the suspension in the following areas:

+ Metro Manila

+ Aurora

+ Quezon

+ Rizal

+ Laguna

+ Camarines Norte

+ Camarines Sur

+ Albay

+ Sorsogon

+ Catanduanes

+ Masbate

+ Northern Samar

+ Eastern Samar

+ Leyte

+ Southern Leyte

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was spotted at 290 kilometers northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte or 130 kilometers east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar as of Monday, 3 p.m.

Based on the forecast, the LPA will cause overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the Visayas except Antique.

The habagat will trigger the same conditions over Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Mimaropa, and Antique.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
