Hergie Bacyadan falls to top seed Chinese opponent in Paris Olympics
Metro Manila, Philippines — Hergie Bacyadan bowed out of the Paris 2024 Olympics competition after absorbing a unanimous decision loss to China's Li Qian, a silver medalist in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, in the Round of 16 of the women's 75kg boxing category Wednesday at the North Paris Arena.
The 29-year-old Bacyadan had a difficult time to land clean and powerful punches, while Qian connected on long jabs and quick combinations to get the nod of the five judges scoring the bout.
Bacyadan's loss came hours after Eumir Marcial's bid for a better medal finish crashed at the hands of Uzbekistan's Turabek Khabibullaev in the men's 80kg class.
