Metro Manila, Philippines - Tropical depression Crising is seen to intensify further on Thursday morning, July 17, with some areas in Luzon likely under a wind signal as it approaches land mass, the weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said storm alerts may be raised Thursday morning over Cagayan and some parts of Isabela.

Catanduanes may also be under a storm signal depending on the storm track, said Christopher Perez, PAGASA assistant weather services chief, said in a Wednesday briefing.

“Crising” may be classified as a tropical storm on Friday before approaching northern Luzon.

It may pass close or make landfall over mainland Cagayan or Babuyan Islands from Friday evening to early Saturday morning.

PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando warned the public against floods, landslides from rains brought by “Crising” in the following days, as it will enhance the southwest monsoon, or habagat.

“Even in areas that are not directly in the path of Tropical Depression Crising maaari pa ring maapektuhan dahil sa epekto ng [may still be affected because of the effects of the] enhanced southwest monsoon,” Servando said.

“Crising” was last spotted 625 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
