Metro Manila, Philippines – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has opened an orphanage and launched a housing village project in Mindanao, expanding its humanitarian assistance to poor communities.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, deputy ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Dar Al Rahma Orphanage and led the groundbreaking ceremony for Al Reeh Al Mursala Village in the Dinas area of Mindanao, according to a statement released by Sharjah authorities.
The planned village will feature 60 houses, each with two bedrooms and a living room, to provide housing for families in need.
The development will also include an artesian well to ensure access to clean water and a vocational training center designed to help residents develop skills and establish sustainable sources of income.
The project is supported by the Al Reeh Al Mursala charitable program of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority in partnership with Sharjah Charity International.
The UAE official noted the importance of humanitarian initiatives that go beyond providing immediate assistance by helping communities achieve long-term stability and economic independence.
He also thanked donors and institutions whose contributions made the projects possible.
Orphanage for 50 children
During his visit, Sheikh Sultan formally opened Dar Al Rahma Orphanage that can accommodate up to 50 children.
The orphanage has residential accommodations, a mosque and four classrooms, including a computer laboratory to support children’s education and digital literacy.
It also features multipurpose learning spaces intended to provide children with opportunities to develop their knowledge and practical skills.
Beyond education and shelter, the facility includes a sewing institute for mothers of orphaned children.
The institute aims to help women develop sewing skills, produce garments and textiles, and generate income to support their families.
The orphanage also has an electric-powered well for clean water, commercial shops to support local products, a restaurant and administrative offices.
Sheikh Sultan toured the facilities and met with the children and their mothers during the inauguration.
