Metro Manila, Philippines — No Filipinos have been reported killed or injured in the deadly flash floods in Nepal, Malacañang said, as Philippine authorities continue to check on Filipinos who may have been affected by the disaster.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the government received updates from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration following reports of casualties from the flooding.
“Ayon po sa OWWA, mayroong 18 OFWs in Nepal — ito po ay galing sa OWWA and DFA — eighteen OFWs in Nepal at batay sa datos ng DFA, mayroong 128 reported Filipinos in Nepal and mostly women married to Nepalese,” Castro said on Thursday, Aug. 27.
(Translation: According to OWWA, there are 18 OFWs in Nepal — this information comes from OWWA and the DFA — and based on DFA data, there are 128 reported Filipinos in Nepal, mostly women married to Nepalese.)
Castro said the DFA had not received reports of Filipino casualties as of Thursday morning.
Philippine authorities are coordinating with Nepalese officials and the Filipino community to determine whether any Filipinos were affected.
Castro said the Marcos administration was saddened by the loss of lives and expressed hope for those affected by the disaster.
“So, as of now ay wala pa po na naibabalita na may naapektuhan po na ating mga kababayan,” she said.
(Translation: As of now, there have been no reports that any of our fellow Filipinos were affected.)
Authorities said monitoring and coordination would continue as the situation develops.
