Metro Manila, Philippines – Former Speaker Martin Romualdez said he is ready to prove that he has not violated any law, in response to his cousin, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., naming him in #SONA2026 on Monday, July 27.
“Masakit man ito sa aming pamilya, iginagalang ko ang naging pahayag ng Pangulo. Hindi ako kailanman humingi ng pabor o espesyal na pagtrato,” Romualdez said in a video.
“Sang-ayon ako na gawin natin ang tama. Ang tama ay ang sumunod sa proseso at hayaan ang ebidensya ang magsalita. Naninindigan akong wala akong ginawang anumang labag sa batas. At handa akong patunayan ito,” he added.
[Translation: While this is painful for our family, I respect the president’s statement. I never asked for any favors or special treatment. I agree that we should do what is right. The right thing to do is to follow the process and let the evidence speak for itself. I maintain that I have not done anything illegal, and I am ready to prove it.]
Marcos said the ombudsman is about to file multiple cases against Romualdez. He added that he is a president not only to family but also the Filipino people.
Romualdez was implicated in the flood control controversy in 2025, where he was named as a recipient in the alleged multibillion-peso scam, first revealed by the president in #SONA2025.
