Germany completes sweep to capture first FIBA World Cup title

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 10) — Germany completed an eight-game sweep of the 2023 FIBA World Cup after beating Serbia, 83-77, in the final Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Dennis Schroder led Germany with 28 points, including a crucial driving lay-up to push their lead to 81-77 with 21 seconds left in the contest then hitting two free throws to seal the victory. He was later named the tournament’ s Most Valuable Player.

Prior to Schroder’s heroics, Aleksa Avramovic gave life to Serbia by scoring six straight points to cut the deficit to a single possession.

This is Germany’s first title in the global showpice while Serbia suffered another heartbreak in the final after settling for silver in the 2014 World Cup edition.

Franz Wagner chipped in 19 points and seven rebounds for Germany.
